Immunohistochemistry is a laboratory-based diagnostic procedure. Tests on biopsy tissue samples let doctors diagnose diseases more precisely. IHC allows your doctor to distinguish between disease types and subtypes by identifying markers within cells.

IHC is extremely important in diagnosing certain cancers since your doctor needs much information to select treatment, like:

  • Cancer's origin
  • Cell type Growth rate

Immunohistochemistry is a tool that can help doctors figure out what diseases people have, like cancer. It may also be used to help people tell the difference between different kinds of cancer.

Why done ?

There are many types of breast cancer, and IHC tests help diagnose them all.

  • Cancer that spreads to other parts of the body (when cancer has spread within breast tissue)
  • Breast cancer that has spread (when cancer has spread to distant parts of the body)
  • Cancer that comes back again in the breast (when cancer has come back after treatment)
